The Oxford Handbook of Historical Phonology Historical Phonology is one of the oldest sub-disciplines of linguistics, and yet is still one of its most vital areas of study. It links linguists who may have divergent fundamental assumptions and methodologies, but who all share an interest in the possibilities, patterns and causes of phonological change. The Handbook aims to present an overview of the state of the art in current work in historical phonology, and to embody the collective knowledge of the field. The contributors come from all areas of the discipline: theoreticians, empirical specialists, philologists, and those engaged in neighbouring disciplines, from language acquistion to the history of linguistics. |
